BIO
I wasn’t always this flexible. In fact, I never thought it was possible, but when I was 20, I saw a picture book of poses by B. K. S. Iyengar. I was so overwhelmed with awe at the intelligence of his body and I wanted a taste of that knowledge for myself.
I studied, for a decade, at The Yoga Room in Berkeley under my mentor, Mary Lou Weprin, and in time I had the honor to become a teacher and share the intelligent art of Yoga.
My teaching is a reflection of my daily practice which began as a teenager in North Carolina. In 2013 I completed The Yoga Room’s two year, 500 hour teacher training program, under the guidance of Mary Lou Weprin and Donald Moyer.
I am also certified as an Elise Browning Miller Yoga for Scoliosis teacher trainer. I have studied extensively with senior Iyengar teachers Michael Lucey, Elise Browning Miller, and Patricia Walden. In my teaching I work with the movement principles I learned from Iyengar Yoga. I use props to create healthy alignment and to develop a sense of the inner body.

TESTIMONIALS
From a Longtime Student
“Benjamin Flowers is a truly effective teacher, able to give directions and corrections that improve and strengthen your poses. He is so knowledgeable about anatomy and movement that what he instructs is always helpful.”
Laura
On Scoliosis
“I met Benjamin about 6 years-ago at a workshop for students and teachers given by Elise Browning Miller on Yoga for Scoliosis. Benjamin was already a certified yoga instructor and I had just started yoga after a 40 year hiatus. Elise
wanted the class to do some inversions with ropes on the wall, and I was scared to death! Benjamin was so kind to assist me and help me overcome my fear. He was in his early 20’s at the time and I was in my late 60’s. He
decided he wanted to get certified as an Instructor in Yoga for Scoliosis. I volunteered to be his student. We met weekly for a year or so.
He has always been so patient and kind, as well a person who motivates and inspires you to do your best. He’s never been judgmental as I’ve never been good at practicing yoga on my own. Did I mention that Benjamin is so talented,
flexible, and very committed to his practice and students? I feel so blessed to have met Benjamin and would recommend him to any one who wants to increase their knowledge and practice of yoga. Namaste.”

From a Yoga Teacher
“Benjamin is my absolute most favorite teacher! I myself being a yoga teacher often find it hard to find teachers that I connect with, feel challenged at the same time supported. Benjamin does exactly that. I feel like he really watches
us so closely and he is so knowledgeable of the body he himself being an expert Yogi, he really knows how to guide us into difficult and challenging poses but at the same time in a very safe and supportive way. He takes my practice
into places I’ve never dreamed I would be. I will follow him everywhere and study with him virtually as long as I’m able.”
